Thank you to everyone who helped with the work and witness trip to Joplin. Many of you donated food, clothes, money or made cookies. Forty of us ministered together while others have gone at other times on their own. Thank you. We are currently exploring additional Work
& Witness opportunities in Joplin. Please stay tuned...

Thank you for praying for the victims of the Joplin tornado. Our district Disaster Response coordinator, Don Daniels has reported that the Red Cross has given permission for us to help with debris clean-up on Thursday and Friday.
We have decided to participate. As of right now, we have about 10 people from our church that will be going to Joplin on Thursday. Anyone is welcome to join us. We will leave the church @ 7:00a.m. and will return to Independence that evening. There is a dawn to dusk curfew so we cannot stay late. We will plan to carpool and will probably need some of you to drive your vehicle. Some may even need to return earlier than others.
We have been asked to bring rakes, gloves and chainsaws. Also, each participant needs to bring their own water and a sack lunch. We could use some coolers to put the food in.
I would suggest that you wear boots and jeans and possibly a long-sleeve shirt for protection. Please note that this will be a full day of work and you will need to drink plenty of water.
This can be a great opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Thank you for your response to this critical need.

Many have called today asking how we as a church can help the Joplin tornado victims. We have learned from the district office that they are not allowing untrained volunteers in at this time. One of our churches in Joplin sustained very minimal damage and the other was fine. Tomorrow Heart to Heart ministries and NCM (Nazarene Compassionate Ministries) will be on the ground assessing needs.
At this time we are asking that you pray and to begin collecting bottled water and items for Crisis Care Kits. Pastor Bill is organizing the teens to pack these kits on Wednesday night so please bring the items by the church by Wednesday afternoon. You will find the list of items for these kits below. You may also donate $ online @ NCM.org Thank you for your concern and for your true heart for ministry.
